Pothole Guru - report a pothole in Bengaluru in under a minute
Snap a photo, place it on the map, see its ward. No account, no upload - reports stay on your device. Open the app.
Why Pothole Guru exists
Bengaluru's roads have a pothole problem, and the reports that do get filed are scattered across apps, calls and forms. Pothole Guru is a small web app that tries to make the first step - a clear, located, photo-backed report - take under a minute.
What it does today
- Snap a photo, place the pin on the map, save. That is the whole report.
- Each report shows the ward, zone, corporation and assembly constituency it falls in, from the official GBA ward delimitation (Dec 2025, public domain, via OpenCity).
- Reports are grouped visually when several are saved at the same spot - each one is kept separately.
- You can mark a report fixed when you see a repair, export everything as CSV, or download a shareable report card.
Where your data goes
Nowhere. Photos and reports live in this browser's local storage on your device. There is no account and no upload. Map tiles, ward boundaries, fonts and app code load from public CDNs; the map provider sees the area you view, never your reports.
What it honestly cannot do yet
Real sizes and material quantities. A single phone photo has no scale reference, so the app does not claim dimensions. The 3D pour animation is an illustration, not a measurement. A validated measurement method is being researched.
Automatic pothole detection. A detection model is in training. In grouped held-out experimental validation its detection score is far too low to trust (mAP about 0.02), and its accuracy on real street photos is unproven. So nothing in the app auto-labels photos yet.
Sending reports to authorities. Reports are not connected to any civic body yet. The share card and CSV export exist so you can send them yourself.
